BE A
MENTOR

WHAT WE LOOK FOR.

You are:

  • An existing or past FIRST Robotics mentor or student

  • Able to dedicate about 1 hour a week for the full 6 month program to support the teacher that you are matched with (24 hours total).

  • Older than 16 years old.

  • Willing and able to financially support the teachers by purchasing a mentoring package that will cover the cost of their training expenses, which includes access to an online training course as well as equipment and if you choose, an in-person workshop that we will help facilitate for you.

WHAT WE
DO
.

Once you've purchased one of the plans, we'll match you to one of the teachers, send them your donated robotics equipment, give both of you access to the online platform, including access to learning materials, and, if you so choose, help you facilitate your in-person workshop and plan your African tour.

Mentor Matching

We match you to one or more African teachers based on the criteria that you specify.  You can select by the age group of the kids that you want to reach and/or select by country.  You will be your mentees' guide for everything robotics as they participate in our 6-month program.  You and your mentee will have access to RobotAfrica's online platform that will allow you to communicate with them, in real-time if necessary.

Online Education

Both you and your mentee will get access to a 6-month subscription to The Robotics Course (TRC), where they will learn the A to Z of Robotics, including how to bring robotics into their classrooms and how to start their own competitive teams.  Your donation will include robotics equipment that we will deliver on your behalf.  This equipment will be used to build a demo robot that the teachers will use to learn how to program.

In-person Workshops

At any point during the training (usually at the end of the 6 months), if you choose, we can facilitate a 3-day in-person workshop that you will lead in one of the African countries where we work.  We will provide you with all that you need to succeed - the workshop materials, the script, the space and will even recruit the teachers.  Most of our mentors pair the workshop with a larger African vacation, which we can also organize for you.   We call this Technical Tourism!

WHERE WE WORK.
